Hiking TRails of South Africa

HIKING TRAILS OF SOUTH AFRICA - Willie Olivier

Every major trail in South Africa is covered, with a clear description of each hike, its length and estimated time, plus information on hike accommodation, facilities and activities, such as abseiling and diving. Complete contact details for booking your hikes are listed under each entry. Whether you want to experience the beautiful, barren landscape of the Karoo, wander through Cape fynbos, see the wonderful birds and lush indigenous forests of the Garden Route, spot game on a wilderness hike in Mpumalanga, or go on a trail in the hiker's Mecca of the Drakensberg, you will find all the information you need in Hiking Trails of South Africa. The book is also a useful guide to selecting hiking equipment, staying safe on the trail and dealing with emergencies that may arise. In addition, there is a glossary of specialised terms that are used in the book and a handy section where you can record your own hiking experiences. - See more at: http://randomstruik.co.za/books/hiking-trails-of-south-africa/2640#sthash.xfZn9Q2z.dpuf

GPS for Hiking

http://www.fleetmatics.com/resources/articles/using-gps-for-hiking -A Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver helps guide hikers to their destination and back to their original location. Many hikers still use compasses, topographic maps, and altimeters in mountainous regions; however, a GPS receiver provides all of the necessary information when accessible. It guides hikers to a specific waypoint based on bearing, heading, and distance. In addition, most GPS units allow hikers to choose between true and magnetic north. A GPS device allows users to enter or mark coordinates of their current location. This makes it easy for hikers to navigate back to their original position in the event they get lost. Hikers should remain aware of their surroundings, especially in wooded areas where a loss in reception may occur. If this happens, hikers should seek the nearest clearing to regain a signal. It also helps to carry a compass and map to test the accuracy of GPS readings. (Link kindly provided by Lily McMahon).

ADVERTISING

Obviously, we need to generate some income to enable us to continue providing - and expanding - this service, so we have to provide "infomercials" as well.  ;-})

Please CONTACT US if you would prefer to promote your goods or services (beyond a non-promotional basic free link) and we can negotiate surprisingly affordable advertising rates.

In fact, for the first few months, while we are getting established, you can name your own rate, from R1 per day upwards.

However, please bear in mind that we reserve the right to present adverts from higher paying advertisers more frequently than those of lower paying advertisers.

If you do not have the skills available to develop your own banner ads, and/or to develop a commercial website for your banner ad to link to, AiNet can assist you at surprisingly reasonable rates.

CONDITIONS FOR ADVERTS

Since we will be providing links to this site from some of our other sites that cater for churches and schools, we reserve the right to refuse certain adverts:

i.e. Those that are illegal (or of suspect legality - like pyramid schemes and other "get rich quick" schemes) or that we deem to be offensive, unethical or unsuitable for children, (including ads for "legal" drugs like alcohol and cigarettes, and "legal" soft pornography).

We also reserve the right to remove published adverts that we subsequently discover to be illegal, unethical or that YOU complain about. We are not lawyers and might let something slip through, but this is YOUR site and your satisfaction is more important to us than more advertisers.
