DRINK

On the trail....

Start drinking water before you feel thirsty. Rarther drink small quantities at regular intervals than waiting until you are so thirsty that you empty your waterbottle in one long gulp.

Just as dehydration can be a dangerous problem - especially - but not only - on hot days, overhydration by drinking far too much (so you feel continously "waterlogged") can also deplete energy by washing out electrolytes and trace minerals.

However, dehydration is far more serious and can even be fatal if extremely severe, so rarther err on the side of too much liquid intake than too little.

Alcohol, although liquid, can actually increase dehydration, so should be totally avoided on the trail and only be consumed in moderation, if at all, at the campsite.

At the campsite....

Drink some water just before leaving the campsite, even if you are not thirsty. This will delay your thirst and prolong the availability of water from your waterbottle on the trail.

If you have any tips concerning drink to share, (hydration - NOT booze, of course) please either use the FEEDBACK FORM or simply e-mail us...
